Magazines
Description
Entries in this category must be published at least twice per year. Annual publications should be entered in one of the Publications categories. Web magazines (periodical or continual) should be entered in the Websites category (37).
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards may be given in this category. One Grand Gold award will be chosen from among all of the entries in categories 11-14.
You may also want to consider entering individual articles or a series of articles from the same publication in the Writing categories.
Categories
11. Print General Interest Magazines
a) magazines with circulation less than 29,999;
b) magazines with circulation 30,000 to 74,999;
c) magazines with circulation greater than 75,000
12. Special Constituency and Research Magazines
13. Magazine Special Issues
14. Magazine Improvement (print only; any audience)
Judging criteria
Judges consider all aspects of a good magazine including:
- Appropriateness to audience
- Achieves stated objectives
- Quality of writing and editing
- Quality of design
- Quality of photography and illustration
- Quality of printing
- Originality
- Effective use of resources
How to enter
Once you have submitted and paid for the entry using the online entry form, mail two copies of each issue to be judged along with a printout of your entry form to the Magazines judging coordinator:

For magazines published monthly or bimonthly, you must submit four different issues for judging. If your magazine is published fewer than six times per year, you must submit two different issues for judging.
You are not required to submit consecutive issues, but all submitted issues must be dated within the eligibility period of November 1, 2011 to October 31, 2012.
For Magazine Improvement (14), you must submit one issue each of BOTH the old and new designs, clearly labeled. The “old” design must be the previous iteration of the same publication that was still in use at the time of the redesign. The redesign must have been published for the first time during the eligibility period.
